Taylor Swift is reportedly set to play the Super Bowl halftime show for the first time in 2023, according to a new report from Variety. The report points out that one of the reasons this long-awaited performance is finally happening is that Apple is taking over the Super Bowl halftime sponsorship from Pepsi.

The Taylor Swift Super Bowl halftime show is finally happening

The report cites three sources “close to the situation” and says that Taylor Swift is set to headline the Super Bowl LVII halftime show in 2023. This report comes just 12 hours after it was announced that Apple and the NFL had reached a deal for Apple Music to take over the sponsorship of the Super Bowl halftime show starting next year.

Taylor Swift fans quickly started to read the tea leaves when the Apple Music deal was announced overnight. One of the most common reasons was that Swift’s upcoming album is called “Midnights,” and the deal between Apple and the NFL was announced at midnight. That’s certainly a bit of a reach, but Variety points to a more compelling theory.

Pepsi has been the Super Bowl halftime sponsor since 2013, the same year that Swift inked a long-term deal with Coca-Cola. It’s unclear whether this partnership prohibited Swift from performing at a Pepsi-sponsored halftime show, but it certainly “would have been awkward.”

But beyond those theories, Variety says it has three sources close to the situation who have confirmed that Swift is indeed lined up to be the Apple Music Super Bowl halftime performer in 2023.

Apple and Taylor Swift have had a tumultuous relationship over the years. In 2015, Swift publicly called out Apple for the company’s plan not to pay artists for streams during Apple Music free trials. Apple, however, quickly conceded and agreed to pay artists for free-trial streams.

Since then, Swift has appeared in Apple advertising campaigns, been spotlighted during “Today at Apple” sessions, and released exclusive content on Apple Music.

Could she be “Ready for It?”

Taylor Swift fans — also known as Swifties — think the NFL just alluded to the possibility that the 32-year-old singer-songwriter may play next year’s Super Bowl LVII halftime show.

The league didn’t namedrop any acts in a press release issued Friday to announce that Apple Music will now sponsor the halftime show, but it did drop the release at midnight.

The “Lover” songstress released both her 2020 pandemic albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” at that time and has included the word “midnight” in her lyrics for years.

To top the theory off, her ninth album “Midnights” drops on Oct. 21.

Swift is famous for her Easter eggs — subtle or complex hints about upcoming projects for fans to put together to come up with their own theories on what could be coming next from the superstar.

Another interesting observation is that Pepsi pulled out of its longtime Halftime Show sponsorship last year, an endeavor Apple Music will now take on. Swift has been locked into a sponsorship with Coca-Cola since 2013, so Pepsi’s departure may mean now is the time for Swift to book the gig, fans suggested.

Additionally, the “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” singer wrote an open letter to Apple Music in June 2015, telling Apple CEO Tim Cook that she was disappointed that the then-new streaming service wouldn’t compensate artists for the streams users racked up during their three-month trial.

Her letter had an impact, as Apple quickly announced it would indeed be paying artists for their music during the free period, if at a reduced rate, which is similar to other services.

A year later, Swift showed that there was no “Bad Blood” between her and the tech giant when she appeared in multiple Apple Music commercials.

The Post has reached out to reps for Swift and the NFL.

The Super Bowl LVII is slated for Feb. 12, 2023, at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Is Taylor Swift doing the 2023 Super Bowl?

According to TMZ, Swift was asked to perform at the halftime show and ultimately declined. The report states Swift is waiting to perform at the Super Bowl until she finishes re-recording her first six albums following a well-publicized dispute with Scooter Braun regarding her master recordings.

Did Taylor Swift turn down the Super Bowl?

It's no surprise, then, that Swift was reportedly approached to play the Super Bowl halftime show in 2023. But even though fans around the world would love to see her perform, she turned it down to focus on her own music career.
