What is a Statement of Service?
Updated 06/04/2022 01.18 AMSome postgraduate programs at the University of Newcastle require applicants to demonstrate a minimum level of professional experience to gain admission. If you are required to demonstrate professional experience, you should submit a Statement(s) of Service (example) and where possible, an accompanying job description.
All statements of service must be signed by your employer and must include the following details as a minimum requirement:
- Be signed and dated by your employer
- Be on the employer's official stationery/letterhead
- Include contact details of the referee/person completing the statement
- Confirm the position/job title and the main duties performed
- Detail the period of employment served, including start and end dates (dd/mm/yyyy)
- Confirm whether the position is/was held on a full-time, part-time or casual/contract basis
- Confirm the regular hours worked per week (e.g. 40 hours per week) or the total amount of hours worked to date
Please note:
- If you are providing a copy of a hardcopy/physical statement of service, it must be a colour or a certified copy.
- If you are providing an electronic or digitally issued statement of service, it must be digitally signed by your employer
- If your previous employer no longer exists, please contact the Admissions team to discuss alternative options.
Self Employed Applicants
If you are self-employed, you will need to supply the following:
- a copy of your business certificate of registration
- a letter from your accountant or solicitor, on their official stationery, detailing how long you have been continuously engaged with the business and confirming the nature of the business
