Computer system comprises of two main components Hardware (physical) and Software (non – physical) or set of instructions.

But do you know that as per requirement we have various types of computer hardware like for personal work we have PC or desktop computer, on the other side we have Super computer like ‘PARAM’ which is for complex and big calculation. Their hardware is also different. Similarly for different types of tasks we have separate software like System software, application software etc.

Operating system
Language processor
Utility software

An application is any program, or group of programs, that is designed for the end user. Applications software (also called end-user programs) include such things as database programs, word processors, Web browsers and spreadsheets.

The main program in any computer machine is not what we are using. It is the operating system which makes all the things possible like saving, searching, moving, copying files and folders and controlling other attached devices like printer etc.

Make a list of all the software which you see or remember in your school computer. Categorize them either they are application software or system software.
