This article describes the new management functionality in the Windows Management Framework (WMF) 4.0 Update. This hotfix is available for Windows Server 2012.
This hotfix lets you use the following features and functionality in WMF 4.0:
Windows PowerShell 4.0
Windows PowerShell Desired State Configuration (DSC)
Windows PowerShell ISE
Windows PowerShell Web Services (also known as Management OData IIS Extension)
Windows Remote Management (WinRM)
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)
Server Manager WMI provider
Software Inventory Logging (SIL)

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
Prerequisites
Registry information
To use the hotfix in this package, you don't have to make any changes to the registry.
Restart requirement
You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
Replacement information
This hotfix doesn't replace a previously released update.

Windows Management Framework (WMF) provides a consistent management interface for Windows. WMF provides a seamless way to manage various versions of Windows client and Windows Server. WMF installer packages contain updates to management functionality and are available for older versions of Windows.
WMF installation adds and/or updates the following features:
- Windows PowerShell
- Windows PowerShell Desired State Configuration (DSC)
- Windows PowerShell Integrated Script Environment (ISE)
- Windows Remote Management (WinRM)
- Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)
