WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR

Hiking for me always brings up one question: What do I wear on my feet?

Whether it be a morning stroll or a whole day affair, I don’t want something too heavy, clunky or constricting, nor do I want to settle for a trainer with weak grip – a lot to ask, I know. To add to the list of wants, I’m also always on the go and travel frequently – and lightly. So, I’m really looking for the perfect all rounder that I can maximise use from. With unpredictable travel, unpredictable weather always comes too, so a guarantee on waterproofing is a huge plus.

On a separate note, like many people, the thought of breaking in a hiking boot or shoe tends to bring a bit of concern. As a Type 1 Diabetic, foot health is super important; one of the main issues Diabetics have when breaking in footwear is stiff materials and abrasion. So, I really need a shoe which conditions easily and quickly whilst retaining a soft feel throughout use, especially on the heel. A strong lacing system to hold my feet in place doesn’t hurt too.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I have to admit, I was pretty excited to get these shoes out the box and on my feet! With emphasis on the designed by women for women, I really wanted to know if TERREX had managed to pull this off (spoiler alert, they did).

Pulling these shoes out the box, I was stunned by their lightweight feel and soft to touch material composition. The bio-based Eva midsole grabbed my attention due to its huge amount of flex. Once I’d had a good play around with this shoe, my eyes took to their design. Although the ‘acid orange and silver violet’ colourway appeared a bit out there for me, I did warm up to the idea of having some funky colours on my feet. For those not so keen, there are a range of black, brown and grey colourways available too.

On initial wear, I found them easy to slip on and receptive to my foot. The ankle collar felt supportive and non abrasive, as did the tongue and counter lining. On the whole these TERREX felt bouncy and ready to go. My only nit-pick is that the sizing came in a little too small.

THE TEST

After taking these hiking shoes for a couple of easy walks around the Peak District, I opted to push these Terrex further. Packing my bags for Cyprus, these were the first items in my suitcase with an ideal test in mind – The Akamas National Park. This nature preserve lies on a peninsula coast with forestry, hills, beaches and gorges – an ideal location for various levels of hiking. The route I picked covered a mix of way types, accompanied by some fairly narrow, loose and steep paths. Conditions remained humid and dry for the duration of this trail which allowed me to test out traction in extremely dusty conditions – quite the opposite to the wet and dreary treks in the Peak District only a few weeks prior.

WHO IS THIS ITEM FOR?

For years, Adidas TERREX has stood out for its visibility, style, comfort and performance. For the this particular product range, TERREX designers worked in collaboration with women hikers to gain experience-based and biometric insight to understand the female foot. Key research examined how the female foot touches the ground when hiking which informed all elements of design.

So, whether you’re an established hiker or a mid morning stroller, this shoe truly adapts itself to any female wearer’s use. If you can try it on before purchase, these hiking shoes are undeniably a high-performance, quality option with an honest price point of £130.

WHAT STANDS OUT?

MATERIALS

From the padded ankle collar to the EVA midsole, these shoes react to every step your foot takes. Over time, the flexible material worked to my foot construction and offered me cushioning throughout my hiking. However, if you do prefer the feel of a clunkier/sturdier boot, these might not be the shoes for you.

WEIGHT

Incredibly lightweight with a small, nimble structure. Perfect for keeping light on your feet on a long hike. Again, if you prefer that heavier feel, perhaps not the right choice for you.

TRACTION

The Continental Rubber outsole offers traction in both wet and dry conditions.

MULTI-PURPOSE

Research and design truly elevates this shoe – whatever your level of hiking or terrain choice you could trust the TERREX Mid RAIN.RDY hiking shoes to deliver.

VALUE FOR MONEY

For a multi-purpose shoe offering nimble on-trail performance, durability and extreme comfort, these really pack a punch for £130.

BASE BOTTOM LINE

Designed to encourage women to battle the outdoor elements, this shoe really is a great choice for women looking to get out and enjoy the outdoors, from casual walks to weekend hike trips. And with barely any conditioning time, these TERREX can be out of the box and on your feet in no time. Just two words of advice – size up!
