Can I use The Ordinary Buffet with hyaluronic acid

First stop – what is The Ordinary Buffet? Is it good for oily skin? Good for acne prone skin? Good for mature skin? What’s it going to do and why would I use it?

Fabulous questions my friend.

In a super quick, 1-sentence The Ordinary Buffet review – you need to know this 1 thing;

The Ordinary Buffet is a peptide serum (with extras – more about those soon) and it’s focused on anti-ageing, specifically reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Yes it can be done.

And yes you are awesome and beautiful with or without them.

You really are (!)

Believe it my friend.

Getting you started on skincare like The Ordinary Buffet is less about skin changes and more about self-care, self-love and self-acceptance. Aka getting you feeling as awesome as we all know you to be.

Quick science bit – The Ordinary Buffet serum is a combination of peptide technologies.

Think of these guys like messengers. They’re super similar to actives your skin already makes – meaning this is a fantastic anti-ageing serum for sensitive skin types. And even sensitive skin areas like your eyes.

The peptides included in The Ordinary Buffet serum go by the names;

  1. Matrixy 3000 (to check the ingredients list for this active you’ll need to look for the name Palmitoyl Oligopeptide & Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7)
  2. Matrixyl synthe’6 peptide complex (aka Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38)
  3. SYN-AKE peptide complex (aka Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate)
  4. Relistase peptide complex (aka Acetylarginyltryptophyl Diphenylglycine)
  5. ARGIRELOX peptide complex (aka Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (and) Pentapeptide-18)

Wowzer right, that’s a LOT of peptides.

A LOT of active ingredients.

(psst – there’s even more actives than this – I’m chatting about these soon so keep reading).

Question is – what do the peptides you’ll find in The Ordinary’s Buffet serum do?

Aka is The Ordinary Buffet worth your hard-earned money? Can these actives actually anti-age your skin?

The exciting (science) bit (!)

What Does The Ordinary Buffet do?

Anti-ageing, anti-ageing, anti-ageing. My friend Buffet is a hyper-focused anti-ageing serum.

While some anti-ageing actives focus only on collagen boosting – Buffet peptides do more.

Psst – collagen is a skin protein, it’s like skin scaffolding. When you have lots of healthy skin collagen, your skin’s smooth, plump and ageless. As your collagen levels go down (it’s natural with age – but can also be super-accelerated by things like UV light) your skin is prone to fine lines and wrinkles.

Think of healthy collagen like a just bought kitten heel. And think of not so healthy collagen, like that very same kitten heel now worn down by a months’ worth of awesome nights out.

That kitten heel which has born witness to your version of strictly come dancing 😉 is now a little bit wobbly, a little bit less able to hold you up, a little bit uneven.

This is what time can do to your collagen my friend.

The peptides used in The Ordinary’s Buffet serum – help reboot your skin’s collagen health.

They help activate your skin to make more collagen.

And while they’re doing this, they’re also;

  • Helping boost your skin’s production of hyaluronic acid
  • Inhibiting elastase activity – psst – this is an enzyme your skin has – it breaks down elastase. Elastase is the springy bit which sits in between your skin’s collagen networks.
  • Helping stop your skin making more wrinkles – this is thanks to the ARGIRELOX peptide complex – it works a bit like Botox, by temporarily reducing how much expression muscles can contract – aka this can be super good for crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles.

Psst – for that last benefit – please keep in mind that a serum you put onto your skin, is never going to have the same effect as Botox. However, with regular use, it sure will keep people guessing your age as 10 years younger than you actually are.

Bottom line recap review of The Ordinary Buffet; A serum which helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles by;

  1. Boosting your skin’s collagen production
  2. Boosting your skins hyaluronic acid production
  3. Stopping your skin from killing off elastase aka the stuff which makes your skin bounce… and so much more.

Keep reading for the more bit. It’s going to have you star-struck on Buffet’s £12.70 price tag.

How do they charge so little!?

What’s in The Ordinary Buffet?

So many extras you need to know about (!)

First stop, here’s the in-full The Ordinary Buffet ingredient’s list;

The Ordinary “buffet” Ingredients list

Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Pentapeptide-18, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate, Acetylarginyltryptophyl Diphenylglycine, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Trehalose, Fructose, Glucose, Maltose, Urea, Sodium PCA, PCA, Sodium Lactate, Citric Acid, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Butylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Acacia Senegal Gum, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, Polysorbate 20, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Ethoxydiglycol, Sodium Benzoate, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

As an award-winning skincare formulator – this formula literally makes me say wowzer. There’s so much of the good stuff here.

First up – this serum has some fab hydrators.

1st on the list is glycerin, it ‘magnetises’ water molecules to itself and because it’s now on your skin – your skin = more hydrated. Yes to that.

There’s also extra hyaluronic acid plus another active called hyaluronic acid cross-polymer.

The cross polymer kind captures other actives and holds them against your skin for longer. Super helpful as this means your skin has more chance to absorb the good stuff.

Think of hyaluronic acid cross polymer like a sheet mask you can’t see.

Then there’s a probiotic complex – it’s the ingredient I’ve bolded.

Love this active.

It’s not live bacteria, it’s actually dead bacteria.

Which sounds yucky right? Until you realise your skin’s home to millions of bacteria – and your skin needs them to be healthy and youthful.

This dead bacteria can help your skin to renew itself and to make a super healthy skin barrier.

Which sounds highly unglamorous – although trust me my friend – a healthy skin barrier is one of THE best ways to anti-age your skin. And if you’ve taken my The Ordinary speed training, you already have a skincare routine set up to do this.

The Ordinary’s Buffet serum then goes on into a humongous list of skin identical and skin similar hydrating and conditioning actives.

This list is amazeballs. There’s so much here which is going to help make your skin sing.

Psst; Can you take a guess at why this super serum’s called Buffet? It’s definitely up there with all your skin can eat eh 😉

The Ordinary Buffet Review

The most important part. Does it work? Will The Ordinary (TO) Buffet really anti-age your skin?

Right now, I’m reading the supplier trials for the key anti-ageing peptides included in TO Buffet – they’re impressive.

In just 2 months – which really is extremely quick for anti-ageing skincare – fine lines and wrinkles are seen to reduce by anything from 31% to 100%. This result is a real-life result i.e. it’s on real, human skin that’s attached to real, living humans.

These results are from 3D modelling of skin i.e. not by a person deciding if skin really is less wrinkled.

This is way more objective and reliable.

Note – these studies are completed by the manufacturers of the peptides we’re talking about. Keep this in mind, as it means there’s likely a bit of bias in the interpretation of anti-ageing benefits.

The bottom line The Ordinary Buffet review; Even still – in my opinion – yes The Ordinary Buffet is well worth your investment and yes it has fab potential to show you great skin benefits.

Buy it now.

How to Use The Ordinary Buffet

Can you use Buffet in the morning and evening? Can you use Buffet with hyaluronic acid? Can you use Buffet with vitamin C?

My friend, if you’re feeling overwhelmed and confused by how to get glowing, radiant skin you love with The Ordinary Skincare, you are 100% not alone. It’s an extremely common side effect. And you can find a cure 😉 in my The Ordinary speed training – Extraordinary Skin With The Ordinary. Find out more here.

Now onto those questions;

  1. Can you use Buffet in the morning and the evening? Yes you can. This is A-OK. Buffet’s not light sensitive so you can use any time of day – provided none of the actives you’re using in combination has conflicts (see an example of a conflict in answer #3).
  2. Can you use Buffet with hyaluronic acid? Yes, yes, yes. Although you might not need to. The Ordinary’s Buffet already has hyaluronic acid in its formula. There’s also a likelihood you might experience pilling if you layer too many of these types of skincare serums.
  3. Can you use Buffet with vitamin C?Depends. Which type of vitamin C are you using? As a general rule, if you’re using a formula containing ascorbic acid, for example, The Ordinary’s Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% then it’s a no. You should keep peptides separate from ascorbic acid.

Exciting! What’s your decision my friend? Are you set to try The Ordinary Buffet? Come let me know in the comments down below… oh and be sure to share this on with someone you know needs this in their life. You are the best.

Should I use Buffet before hyaluronic acid?

Start with “Buffet,” which combines peptides, hyaluronic acid, amino acids and bioderivatives to target multiple signs of aging . Then, add the Hyaluronic Acid, which has additional hydrating ingredients like B5 to plump skin with moisture, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

What should not be combined with ordinary Buffet?

It's best not to combine Buffet with acids and vitamin C products.

Can I combine hyaluronic acid and Buffet?

What ingredients can I use with Buffet? Since the formula already contains multiple ingredients, you don't really need to layer other serums with it, and there are certain combinations that should be avoided (see below). However, it's totally safe to apply Buffet in the same routine as hyaluronic acid.

Can I use the ordinary buffet niacinamide and hyaluronic acid together?

One of our fave combos is combining niacinamide and hyaluronic acid together before applying them to the skin. For those wondering "Can you use lactic acid and niacinamide together?", yes you can!
