Kiehl deep pore facial cleanser review

Hello my lovely people and welcome to a follow up from my previous post, which was a mini haul of ‘Kiehls Skincare’.

Continuing from my previous review, which you can read here > Kiehls Midnight Recovery Eye, this review is on Kiehls Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser.

As well as applying lots of goodness to your skin, like serums and creams, it makes sense to use something just as magical to deep clean your skin and those niggly pores.

What it is: a mildly foaming cleanser that helps to reduce the appearance of pores for beautifully clear skin. Formulated with Amazonian White Clay, this gently exfoliating deep pore cleanser removes debris, toxins and excess oil to purify, thoroughly cleanse and minimise the appearance of pores.

MY SKIN CONCERNS

When I did purchase the cleanser, my skin was combination oily and was giving of a lot of excess oil half way through the day, if not just a few hours after make up application and leaving a not so dewy shine! So all the moisture fuelled products I was using up until then, were really not doing me any favours. My expectations from this cleanser was for the shine ‘to be gone’ and notice some reduction/improvement in my pores.

MY EXPERIENCE

The product has a clay like grainy and creamy feel to it, foaming/lathering up enough for you to feel a good coating has gone on all over. A little does go a long away, so not much is needed. I used the product (approx a blob the size of a 1p) on a damp face morning and night. I noticed a difference after just a few days, with my skin feeling like it can breath and thoroughly cleaned after every use!

I felt the clay really helped with balancing the oils on my face and leaving a fresh feeling after. Clay generally is always highly recommended for removing toxins and excess oil so its great for combination/oily skin. I have been using the Face wash for almost 9 months, and as my skin has been becoming less oily and getting back to its original dry/combination state. I have started using the face wash less, with my skin changing and becoming slightly dry occasionally, I don’t want to completely remove all the oils so tend to use the face cleanser on the days I have heavier makeup.

10 months on, the face wash did finish and I did repurchase without thinking twice. Aside from the unwanted oils floating around on my face, my other main concern was my pores, an area the cleanser mentioned will improve!

Did I notice a change, HELL YES – I do still have some pores, however have noticed that they have reduced or become smaller. They would always peep through as they day went on, even after using a primer. Now, I do occasionally get a glimpse of the pores but they don’t disturb me as much as they used to, a quick pat down with a sponge or my fingers manages to make them disappear, as if by magic. I do feel the face cleanser helped to deep clean and reduce my pores, but I also do feel another product I have been using alongside this has helped – which is the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate (review on this very soon). I have decided to take a deep breath and bare all and show my pores below in a before and after image – for reference the ‘after’ was taken approximately 3/4 months since using said product.

You can see in the before, I had a lot of redness, very visible pores, some patchy discolouration and a good few scars/spots, and the after image shows an obvious improvement in the skin texture and overall look.

I have to stress, you do need to give a product time to work its magic, be patient and feed your body goodness such as plenty of water and eating your greens. Having worked for Clinique briefly, emphasis on skincare is huge along with a routine and time for your skin to adjust. The company itself believe that “great skincare can be created”, and I do really believe this. I feel, if you find after a couple of weeks some change/improvement is happening, then to stick with it for at least 2-3 months for it to work and show its results.

PRODUCT SCORE:

  • 5/5 – Packaging: your standard squeezable tube, clean and hygienic compared to dipping into a pot – no complaints
  • 5/5 – Product: clay like, mildly grainy cream feel to the product, a little goes a long way and I managed to make the tube last over 10 months. I was using this twice a day for the first 3/4 months, and then reduced it to 2-3 times a week. I repurchased to maintain the deep clean 1-2 times a week and it did what it claims to do, deep clean, reduce oils and pores – love it.
  • 4/5 – Price: £18 for 150ml. I think some may feel its on the pricer side for a face wash, however for me it improved my two main concerns, which any other face wash has not been able to do in this space of time – so I feel, £18 was money well spent.
  • 5/5 – Purchasing Experience: – Ordered online from Debenhams, as there is no local Kiehls close by. You can get free delivery to your local Debenhams store if over £20, or free delivery to home if ordering over £40.

Would I buy again? YES – getting that refreshed, breathable clean feeling on my skin, why would I say no!!!. It really helped keep my oils at bay especially on my t zone and helped with my pores, so to me it did what it said! My skin went from combination/dry to oily… something I have not had for years so I literally went into meltdown, as I just repurchased all my moister/oil fuelled products. As mentioned earlier, I have been using this alongside Kiehls, Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which has also had an impact on my pores and skin overall (review soon on this very soon).

As always, thank you for reading, I really value product reviews myself, when I’m looking to try something new, so I do hope this has helped anyone looking to make a decision on buying this product (buy buy buy) – the before and after pictures speaks for itself!

Any recommendations for other face washes or cleansers that give you that amazing deep clean feel are welcome – anyone tried the black clay peel of masks? they look interesting and painful…
