 MAC Ruby Woo is a very cool-toned, medium-dark red with a matte finish. It is a permanent lipstick that retails for $19.00 and contains 0.1 oz. MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick ($18.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep, more muted red with strong, blue undertones and a flat, matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied evenly but had a tendency to drag as I tugged it across my lips. The consistency was much firmer and thinner, particularly compared to more recent Retro Mattes, though it was consistent with past iterations I've tried of Ruby Woo (notorious for its firmer texture). Ruby Woo is the perfect shade, but it's a *Retro Matte* and quite drying. MAC has what I think is a virtually identical shade of true red, but it's a Matte formulation, very comfortable to wear and stays put. It's called Red Rock and I highly recommend it. By Zel 4 years ago. Ruby Woo is my favorite red shade. The color is absolutely flattering on my medium skin tone, and I definitely understand why it is such a cult favorite among beauty lovers. However, this is not my favorite formula due to how drying it can feel and how it tugs when I apply it. Still, the wear is absolutely stunning. I really wanted to love this lipstick, but I don't. The retro matte formula of Ruby Woo is difficult to apply because it is extremely dry and tugs very hard on the lips. I found it especially difficult to apply on mature lips. The red shade is bright and pretty, but the color has no depth to it. It was very drying on my lips and though it stayed on pretty well, it was not nearly as long-lasting as I thought it would be based on reviews I've read. There's a different version of Ruby Woo in a special 2017 holiday mini set. Instead of being a retro matte, the mini is in MAC's regular matte formula, which is much creamier, making it easier to apply and more comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, it is a limited edition. My HG vivid red, there is nothing like this. It brightens up my entire face and is my most complimented lipstick I've ever worn, it's velvety, and has zero stickiness. That being said... this is not a luscious creamy lipstick (think the opposite of Bite or Too Faced). I constantly moisturize my lips and apply heavy lip balm every night, so I rarely run into drying issues with any of my lipsticks. This can be drying if I reapply during the day (which is not often). I usually pair it with MAC Cherry lip liner to tone down how blue it is. I can wear this all day with no need to re-apply. And it's suuuuper matte, for me, looks beautiful. Also, it's very dry, so, you need to exfoliate and moisturize your lips before apply ruby woo.
