The newly released Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom are pretty awesome drones. They come with great cameras and a few other upgrades that make them perfect for amateur and pro creatives.

But as with most camera drones, they are useful only for people whose primary goal is to take aerial photos and videos.

They are good for cinematographers, real estate marketing, agricultural imagery, and photography.

Not so much for most enterprise applications like infrastructure maintenance and mapping. They are also not ideal for emergencies such as search and rescue and fires.

So just a couple of months after releasing the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom, DJI launched the Mavic 2 Enterprise specifically for the workplace and emergency applications.

Overview

The Mavic 2 Enterprise joins other DJI enterprise drones including Phantom 4 RTK, the Matrice 200 Series, the Phantom 4 Pro and the Matrice 600.

The Mavic 2 Enterprise joins at the lower end of the price range in this category, though it’s still more expensive than most DJI camera drones.

It’s an excellent choice for companies, organizations, and professionals looking for an entry-level commercial drone.

The Mavic 2 Enterprise is not as revolutionary or feature-packed as other pricier DJI drones like the $5,000 Matrice 600 Pro. But that’s because it is a modified version of the Mavic 2 Zoom.

The basic specs are similar with only a few modifications and additions for specialized enterprise applications.

For example, you can opt for a dual option that carries a visual and thermal camera.

They have also added accessories that are essential out in the field including a spotlight, beacon, and loudspeaker.

They have refined the safety system to avoid accidents between the drone and other aircraft.

The drone also comes with data processing and visualization software which you can use via the DJI Pilot app.

Compact and Foldable Design

‘Compact’ is not a word you hear often in association with enterprise drones. They tend to be large, heavy and tedious to carry around.

If you are looking for a compact and lightweight commercial drone, the Mavic 2 Enterprise is the best choice.

Since it is just a slightly redesigned version of the Mavic Zoom, it’s much lighter than most other enterprise drones. It weighs 905g.

It also comes with the same folding design as the Mavic 2 Zoom, making it easy to travel with.

The Camera

With the Mavic 2, DJI provided two camera options: the Pro with a 1” Hasselblad camera and the Zoom with a 4X zoom camera.

They’ve done the same with the Mavic 2 Enterprise.

You have two camera options: the Enterprise with a 12 MP camera and the Enterprise Dual with a visual and thermal camera.

Note that the visual cameras in the two drones are not exactly the same. The Mavic Enterprise is the one with the more powerful zoom camera.

Both cameras can capture images at 12 MP and videos at 4K. They also have the same sensor size (1/2.3”).

The Enterprise camera boasts a 2X optical zoom and 3X digital zoom.

The zoom feature is useful in a lot of situations.

When inspecting a windmill, for instance, the operator can zoom in to get a close-up look. During search and rescue, it’s easy to get a closer view of what’s happening without getting dangerously close.

The dual camera option is handy when some of your applications require thermal imaging.

The thermal camera uses an Uncooled VOx Microbolometer with image size options of 4:3 or 16:9.

It works with several professional tools included in the DJI Pilot app.

They include a Spot Meter to monitor and measure temperatures, FLIR MSX that combines visual and thermal images for better clarity and an area measurement tool that lets you monitor the temperature within a specific area.

Flying It

Despite being an enterprise drone, the Mavic 2 Enterprise is pretty easy to fly. If you are used to flying DJI camera drones, this one is just as easy to operate.

Similar to the Mavic 2 Zoom, the enterprise is laden with omnidirectional sensors on the left, right, topside, bottom, front, and back.

So the drone can watch out for obstacles from every side.

This not only makes flight safer, but it also gives you the freedom to wedge the drone into some tight spaces, which is necessary in certain situations.

For extra safety, the Enterprise is equipped with DJI AirSense that detects signals from helicopters and airplanes nearby and alerts you to their presence.

The drone is quieter compared to most other drones thanks to a new propulsion system and redesigned propellers.

If you need to be even more inconspicuous especially in the dark, a discrete mode turns off all LED nights.

The advertised battery life is 31 minutes when flying at a constant speed of 25kph in no wind.

In real life use though, the battery life is going to be a few minutes shorter especially, when it’s windy, or you are powering an extra accessory.

Professional Accessories

The Mavic 2 Enterprise comes with several software tools and hardware accessories for different applications on the field.

Let’s start with the accessories.

Spotlight: The dual 26W spotlight is handy for low light situations. It produces 11 Lux at 30 meters with a 17-degree field of view. You can only adjust the angle of the spotlight before taking off.

Loudspeaker: Essential for communicating with people on the ground. It produces 100 decibels of sound at 1 meter. The max hearing range is 65-130 feet depending on the conditions. You can play pre-recorded messages with the speaker or transmit a live recording when the drone is in the air.

Beacon: This improves drone visibility especially in low light conditions. In fair conditions, the beacon is visible for up to 3 miles.

All accessories connect to the drone using micro USB port.

Controller and Video Transmission

The Mavic Enterprise uses the same OcuSync 2.0 transmission system found in the Mavic 2 Zoom and Pro.

OcuSync 2.0 reduces latency, provides better anti-interference performance through automatic frequency switching and better video resolution of 1080p.

It also has a longer range of 8km.

The controller itself is the standard one you’ll also get with the Pro and Zoom drones. It’s compact, foldable and features detachable thumbsticks for easier portability and storage.

It works well with a majority of smartphones including the iPhone and most Android models that are 6.5 to 8.5mm thick and up to 160mm long.

Note that the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise only works with the DJI Pilot app. Do not use the usual DJI Go 4 app.

Other Features

Password Protection

You can protect your data using a password. Once you set a password, no one can fly the drone or access the data without it.

This ensures your data is safe even if the drone falls into the wrong hands.

24GB Onboard Storage

While the Mavic 2 Enterprise does support an SD card, you can store your data locally and retrieve it through a computer.

The onboard storage capacity is 24GB, which should be enough for one or more missions depending on the kind of data you are collecting.

Note that the password protects only the data in the onboard storage. If you mount an SD card, you’ll have to secure it separately.

GPS Timestamping

Timestamping is crucial for record keeping and organizing data. When you turn this feature on, the drone adds a GPS timestamp to all images.

Remember you have to enable the feature. It’s not turned on automatically.

Compatible with DJI FlightHub

For organizations with a fleet of drones, FlightHub allows you to manage all your flight operations from a central place. It stores flight data including logs and statistics, provides real-time data from operational drones and provides an easy way for teams to communicate and coordinate.

Self-Heating Batteries

Commercial and emergency applications don’t care much for the weather. So sometimes you are going to be working in very cold conditions that can affect the drone battery’s functionality.

To make sure you stay operational, the Mavic 2 Enterprise uses self-heating batteries that allow you to keep flying even in sub-zero temperatures.

What is the difference between Mavic 2 and Mavic 2 Enterprise?

Other notable differences are the ability to zoom up to 6x. The Mavic 2 Zoom offers 2x digital and 2x electronic zoom, whereas the Mavic 2 Enterprise offers 2x digital and 3x electronic. The resolution at 6X zoom is decreased to about 720.

Is the Mavic 2 Enterprise discontinued?

Enterprise Drones Being Phased Out The Matrice 600, the Mavic 2 Enterprise, the Mavic 2 Dual, and the Matrice 600 Pro will all stop being made by the end of this year. That means that all of the models currently for sale are the last ones that will ever be available (except for buying them used, of course).
