29 Sep 2022 Update: Vesak Day in 2023 Will Fall on Friday, 2 Jun 2023 Instead of Saturday, 3 Jun 2023

On Thursday, the Ministry of Manpower announced that Vesak in 2023 will fall on Friday, 2 June 2023, instead of Saturday, 3 June 2023.

According to the Singapore Buddhist Federation, this was done to adhere to the Chinese almanac instead of the Chinese-Western almanac.


As much as I enjoy my work.

Nothing beats the joy of public holidays and having the free time to do whatever you want.

Goes without saying that the longer the break, the better.

This is why you’ll be glad to know that according to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) Singapore’s public holidays’ list, there’ll be 11 public holidays and seven loooooong weekends in 2023.

In accordance with the Employment Act, if a public holiday falls on a non-working day.

You are entitled to another day off OR one extra day’s salary in lieu of the public holiday at the gross rate of pay.

For example, if you’re on a five-day workweek.

Saturday should be considered your non-working day.

For a public holiday that falls on a Saturday, you SHOULD get either a day off or salary in lieu.

To maximise this, here is what you need to do:

  • Saturday (22 April 2023): Hari Raya Puasa
  • Sunday (23 April 2023): Weekend
