How can I increase my tube feeding rate?

Increase the Frequency This can be accomplished by adding an additional meal per day (space meals at least two hours apart). Or, you can add two to three smaller, 60- to 120-mL “snacks” between normally scheduled bolus feedings, or add one smaller feeding at bedtime.

How fast can you advance tube feeds?

Advance the rate of feeding 25 cc per hour every 12 hours as tolerated until desired rate is achieved (usually 75 to 100 cc per hour). Do not exceed desired rate recommended by dietitian.

What is the normal rate for tube feeding?

Feeding usually begins at a concentration of ≤0.5 kcal/mL and a rate of 25 mL/hour. After a few days, concentrations and volumes can be increased to eventually meet caloric and water needs. Usually, the maximum that can be tolerated is 0.8 kcal/mL at 125 mL/hour, providing 2400 kcal/day.

What happens if you tube feed too fast?

How do I know if the feeding is going in too fast or too slow? - If feeding is given too fast you will have fullness, cramps, stomach pain and diarrhea. - If feeding is too slow, you will not get enough calories and you will begin to lose weight.
