How do I fix application Firefox exe has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware?

Hello shanks, Thank you for posting on the Intel ® communities. I was checking the report you have attached and I can see that the graphics driver is not yet updated. We always recommend to first get the drivers directly from the manufacturer, this is because we supply generic versions of graphics drivers for general purposes. Computer manufacturers can change the features, incorporate customization, or make other changes to the graphics driver software or software packaging. Nevertheless, this does not mean that our drivers are not going to work, if you wish to proceed with the latest graphics driver released by us, please refer to the steps below: 1. Download the latest DCH driver and save it on the computer.(Link below) https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28566/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10?product=126789 2. Disconnect from the Internet so no new drivers are automatically installed by Windows Update. 3. Uninstall the DCH driver and the Intel Graphics Control Panel from Control Panel > Programs and Features. 4. Restart the computer. 5. Confirm in Device Manager > Video Adapters the controller is listed as 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' > if not, repeat steps 2 through 4. 6. If the adapter continues to be listed as ‘Intel HD Graphics’ or similar, and no other Intel Graphics driver is listed under 'Programs and Features' for removal, then it means Windows has switched to a previously installed Legacy driver. At this point we can remove Legacy drivers from Device Manager: 6.1.1 Right-click on 'Intel HD Graphics' or similar, and select 'Uninstall Device' 6.1.2 In the pop-up window make sure 'Delete the driver software for this device' is checked. 6.1.3 Click on 'Uninstall'. 6.1.4 Restart. (Repeat steps 6.1.1 through 6.1.4 until the device gets listed as 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter') 7. Install the DCH driver that was downloaded on step 1. 8. Restart the computer. 9. Reconnect to the Internet. Once this process has been followed, check again to see if the issue persists. Let me know please. Regards, David V Intel Customer Support Technician Under Contract to Intel Corporation

the subject line is my issue and I'm not sure if I should be here or maybe a browser forum.  I have a new HP Laptop and got that message this morning using Firefox, I was on Twitter at the time.  HP Support was no help.  does anyone have any ideas what would cause the above message?

The build number and info is

Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.523)

thank you

I've seen a few solutions for this:

You can try going to the Intel Graphics Control Panel and

turning off

"Conservative Morphological Anti-aliasing".

If that doesn't work, I suggest you install an older version of the graphics driver, one from the motherboard or computer manufacturer's website, and NOT one from Intel's website.

Are you familiar with doing either of these things?

angieinVA:

Open Intel graphics control panel (assuming it's enabled)

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005596/graphics-drivers.html

If you can't see the control panel, because it's disabled, here's how to enable it:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005637.html

I believe this will turn off Conservative Morphological AntiAliasing:

Go to your Intel HD Graphics Setting (a.k.a Intel HD Graphics Control Panel), select the '3D' menu, then under 'Conservative Morphological Anti-Aliasing' turn this feature off.

Great. With a name like Conservative Morphological Anti-aliasing, I don't how I could forget that setting. It just rolls right off the tongue.

Okay. Then next step is the above-install a driver NOT from the Intel website. I prefer one from your computer/motherboard maker's website. A slightly older one is often less likely to cause this.

angieinVA:

A teaching moment here:

What you need is the latest version of each driver that is:

1. suitable for your OS version

2. suitable for your OS bitness.

e.g. You're running Windows 10. Which bitness? To find out,

Right Click "This PC" and click "Properties" Does it say 64-bit or 32-bit?

Now, just go to the HP website and find the latest drivers (and only drivers) for chipset, Ethernet and/or Wifi, graphics that meet the above criteria.

Aw, geez, HP has made it more difficult than that. They've specified drivers by codename of processor type. Wasn't that silly.

Each CPU (processor) is part of a series designed a certain way. Aside from its model number, the CPU will also belong to a family of CPUs, referred to by a codename, such as "Skylake", "Coffee Lake" etc. Right Click on "This PC" and the model number of your CPU will be shown on that screen. What is your CPU model? With that info. we can move forward.

Oh, and it's a good idea to use a paint program to obfuscate (hide or blur) any personally identifying info. when you post screenshots. That includes social media account names.

angieinVA:

Yes, that will work. That's a fast CPU you have there.

A reliable website reference for looking up CPU info is CPU-WORLD

I went to CPU-WORLD, entered your model number and got this as one search result:

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i5/Intel-Core%20i5%20i5-8250U.html

This shows your CPU as being in "Kaby Lake" family of processors.

So, you will want to download and install the latest version of each driver for your version of Windows and bitness

(e.g. Windows 10 x64) that does NOT have the name Whiskey Lake in it. Because your processor is in the Kaby Lake family. I believe

Also on that cpu-world page was:

Integrated graphicsGPU Type: Intel UHD 620
Graphics tier: GT2

so if you look at the documentation for the graphics drivers, you should see this somewhere in it. You find that by clicking the "Details" button in the row for each driver listed on HP's website. Details shows more detailed info. about each file you can read to decide whether or not you want to download that file.

FYI:

Large manufactuers like Lenovo, Asus, HP usually have an automatic driver updater app. With the click of a button, those apps will connect to HP's server, identify your exact machine and model type, and select/download what it believes are the most correct, up-to-date drivers for your machine. IT can also install them, if you choose.

Why, you ask, would one not always use this newfangled, futuristic technology? Because it doesn't always work perfectly. Often, humans still do the job better. If you want to experiment with it later, the preloaded HP software for this on your machine is called HP (system) Update. For now, though, please just install drivers manually, and tell us exactly which ones you installed and when.
