How to connect 2 UE BOOMs

level 1

As far as I know the UE boom speakers need the software, which isn’t available on Apple TV, to configure stereo pairs. So the answer is probably no.

level 1

Yes. You’re looking to do party up mode on the boom 3. I use 2x wonderboom 2’s on a bedroom tv in a similar setup. The wonderboom does not support the app so you just link them together with the speaker buttons but in reading through UE’s site it looks like you need to use the app to link the Boom’s together. You will essentially setup the first one via Bluetooth on your Apple TV and then link the second one to your main Boom. Hope that helps

level 2

Right but how do I do that? The ATV doesn’t have the app I don’t think. Are you saying it’s possible to use the app on my phone while the boom is connected to the ATV to connect the second boom? I thought they had to both be connected to my phone

The Apple TV can only use AirPlay speakers. A quick google says the UE Boom speakers are Bluetooth only. The sneers is that you cannot use these speakers for the Apple TV.

Two great Ultimate Ears tricks. First pairing them (thanks daleph, see also the video below):

To pair 2 devices without an app:

  1. Pair the FIRST speaker with your mac:
    1. Go to System Preferences > Bluetooth
    2. Press and hold the Bluetooth button until a tone is heard, it should appear as UM BOOM, pair it.
  2. Start playing music
  3. On the device now playing music press and hold the + and the Bluetooth keys until a tone is heard
  4. On the SECOND speaker press the Bluetooth button twice quickly
  5. After a few seconds both speakers will join together

They are only added as an identical pair, NOT Left and Right stereo

Then doing double up in stereo (thanks tomborai and McAllan):

There IS a way… you just gotta find a buddy who has the UE Boom App on either iOS or Android.

Set up STEREO mode and enable “Double Up Lock” just once with the App, ensure it plays proper stereo, then disconnect and power off both speakers.

App no longer needed.

Whenever you desire, power on both speakers around the same time, they will pair within seconds.

Then take your MAC, pair the first speaker only (LEFT), et voila, the speakers have memorized the stereo mode, enjoy!

Not for Stereo. Must be the same speaker to do Stereo. The Boom and Mega can pair up but won't support stereo.

Yes you can. In fact, you can connect fifty...YES FIFTY... of these together, regardless of the model. Out of the box, the first thing to do is update the firmware; and UE is great about pushing regular updates. You can download an app that syncs and monitors the connected devices real-time. I am a Bluetooth speaker junkie, and own a few of these (Boom 2 & Megaboom). Two of them alone provides solid stereo sound for I'd say 600-700 sq feet, and quality is SOLID.

The newer vesions of the UE Boom app have all but disabled pairing of multiple UE speakers.

Its' easy to pair with the new firmware in Party mode. But they will double a mono signal. Two of the same can pair for stereo. if you do more than two they all do mono.

according to their website, if you update the firmware you will lose abilty to pair the boom and megaboom together.
that's what their website states.

yes you can --- this is straight from the IE site:

Q: Can my MEGABOOM Double Up with a BOOM?
A:

Yes, but make sure your BOOM has the latest BOOM software. BOOM update version 7.x and 8.x allow for compatibility with MEGABOOM, but versions 5.x and 6.x do not.

Your BOOM and MEGABOOM Double Up in the same way as they would with another BOOM or MEGABOOM. See “Using the MEGABOOM Double Up feature” for more information.

the short answer is no. I can't even get two megabooms to pair reliably much less my megaboom and boom.

Yes, as long as you update the firmware. Firmware updates are automatic when using the megaboom once the app is installed on your phone and you've made a connection to the speaker. The same is true for the boom, but you need be upgraded to a certain firmware version in order for the automated updates to work. Therefore you might need to initially perform a manual firmware update for your boom. Here's a link with all of the info you need: http://www.ultimateears.com/en-us/update

Yes you can. The Megaboom app is solid. HOWEVER, MORE IMPORTANTLY...you canNOT pair the Wonderboom with anything EXCEPT other Wonderboom. I returned a pair specifically for that reason. I've often hypothesized if that was the impetus behind the name.... as in, I "WONDER" if these little speakers will pair with anything. Nonetheless, the Megaboom passes the litmus test and will pair with up to 49 others within the line.

yes you can, but I have found the pairing to be spotty. A lot of drop outs, fluttering, etc. Given that I don't recommend such an investment for the spotty performance

What UE BOOMs can be paired?

No matter how big your party gets, use the Ultimate Ears BOOM App to connect as many BOOM, BOOM 2, BOOM 3, MEGABOOM, MEGABOOM 3 and HYPERBOOM speakers.

Can you connect Megaboom and Wonderboom?

Pairing speakers together: You can connect the Wonderboom 2 to another Wonderboom 2 or a Wonderboom. However, it doesn't connect with the Boom, Megaboom, Blast, or Megablast speakers.
