This new version of the tried and true PacLite features a more durable and comfortable feel. This allows the GoreTex membrane to be better protected and last longer as well. Making it an eco-friendly and budget-friendly purchase. GoreTex PacLite PlusThe GoreTex people worked on ways to improve on this WPB membrane and found a way to increase the abrasion resistance of the inner treatment of the membrane. If you have used GoreTex PacLite before, you probably felt the clammy texture of the inner surface of the jacket. I for one was not a fan. So, I am really stoked to see this improvement in feel and performance. I reached out to GoreTex to see if there were any other changes in performance with the new version of PacLite Plus. There is a version of PacLite Plus that has a titanium inner color (what I tested in this jacket and pants). The titanium version has a breathability rating of just above RET 6. As the titanium color uses slightly bigger pigments. The charcoal color maintains the breathability of RET <6. I am not sure if I could feel the slight difference in breathability, positively or negatively. I am sure someone will do some very scientific testing on this new membrane and report back. I just used it for snowstorms and splitboarding 🙂 Benefits of new materialsThe big advantages of the new PacLite Plus are better durability and improved comfort. Those are very important factors in jackets and pants. Without adding weight, the PacLite Plus is going to last longer and be more dependable. That is wonderful! Add in that the next to skin feel is drastically improved and I am now impressed. The two biggest issues I had with PacLite are now fixed. Excellent!
Mountain Hardwear Exposure 2 Goretex Paclite Plus Jacket and pant reviewLet’s talk about the actual jacket and pants now. The Exposure 2 jacket and pants ($200) are great for hiking and backpacking. These are very lightweight waterproof breathable jackets and pants. No frills and extra features. Just a set of minimalist pants and jacket to keep you dry on your next adventure. The jacket has two zippered hand pockets and one chest pocket. The pants have one zippered pocket. The fit of the jacket is loose. I tested an XL in the jacket and it felt like I could easily fit a mid-layer or puffy underneath. That is great for multi-purpose use on backpacking trips. Not so good if you are relying on this for urban use and want a more trim fit. It that is your desire, then I would recommend sizing down. The hood is sizable and fits over a hat with ease. The hood has a toggle in the back to sinch down in wind and rain as well. For reference, I am 6’1″ 205lbs, 45″ chest, 33″ waist, and 36/37″ arms. There is one catch that I found with the jacket, and you can see that in the review video. There is an area of the jacket, from chest to neck on the zipper, that has some extra material that I kept catching the zipper on. I can see that this extra material is beneficial for protection and for comfort against the chin. But it seemed to get in the way when I zipped the jacket up. Little issue, easily avoidable by being more aware when zipping. But, it can be a little frustrating when in a rush. They either slip on over your shorts or can be used by themselves. There is only one pocket on the leg, so keep that in mind. The fit was good and covered my 32″ legs. I was using a women’s XL for this review, and they worked. That was what Moutain Hardwear sent, so I went with it 🙂 I am sure a men’s large would have done just as well. The new Mountain Hardwear Exposure 2 GoreTex PacLite Plus jacket and pants are great for hikers, backpackers and anyone looking for a lightweight, waterproof breathable jacket and pants. These are not meant for skiing and snowboarding, but I did use them for these kinds of conditions, just to see if they would work. And they did. Are GOREWhen it comes to mountaineering and winter climbing, a good pair of waterproof trousers will not only keep you comfortable, they also offer an added layer of insulation. In extreme cold, GORE-TEX waterproof trousers are a good option as they have a degree of breathability too. Do I need goreGore-Tex pants are popular with hikers in wet climates, people who fish, people who work outside, golfers, and athletes who train outdoors. Basically, anywhere it's wet is a good setting to wear Gore-Tex pants. Keep in mind the level of insulation in your clothing, though. Are water resistant pants good?Great rain pants will keep you dry and comfortable when the weather gets wet and soggy. The best rain pants offer ventilation to keep you from overheating while you're on the move. You also want a pant that'll pack away when not in use.
