What is the difference between LGA 2011 and LGA 2011 v3?

Ive got an LGA 2011 processor, whats the difference between that and an LGA 2011-v3. Will the LGA 2011-v3 processor fit in a LGA 2011 socket? They dont seem to make regular LGA 2011 processors anymore, only the v3.

Processor: http://i.imgur.com/w7k1IXO.png Nope, it won't fit,  the LGA 2011 v3 is x99 series, you can only use the i7 5820k,  5930k, or 5960x on those mobos. I have no idea WHY they decided to re-use the socket numbers, when none of the 13xx or 11xx socket numbers were re-used                                 chenw :                                             They are completely different sockets. They are not completely different sockets. In fact, they are mechanically identical save for the key notch. true, but it may as well be completely different sockets since the 2011 CPU still won't fit in a 2011v3 socket.

Calling it even 2012 would help distinguish it.
