With the current model sold out nearly everywhere, we’re all waiting with bated breath for the new 2023 Ford Bronco. And it’s almost here! Our preview guide is here to reveal everything we know about this rugged midsize SUV so far.

What’s new for the 2023 Ford Bronco?

Will there be a Ford Bronco 2023?

For 2023, Ford is rolling out the new limited-edition Bronco DR, a desert racer that takes performance to the next level. Its lightweight design and desert-specific hardware will have you leaving competitors in your literal dust. Under the Bronco DR hood, you’ll find Ford’s Coyote 5.0-liter V8 engine. Other features designed to help you win the race include 37-inch BFGoodrich mud-terrain tires and beadlock wheels.

How can I configure my 2023 Ford Bronco?

Will there be a Ford Bronco 2023?

Like previous models, these new Broncos will be available with either a two- or four-door body style. Each Bronco is also available with either a soft or hard convertible top. Removable doors are also standard, giving you the full outdoor adventure experience. And there are six main trim levels (Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, and Wildtrak) that let you balance how much you want to spend with the features you can’t live without.

We also expect to see the Bronco Raptor return for 2023, with its twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine. It’s more powerful than even Ford expected, helping you scale rock beds and desert dunes with 418 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque.

Speaking of engine options, the new Bronco will offer the same two options as before:

  • Standard 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (300 hp, 325 lb.-ft.) + seven speed manual or optional 10-speed automatic transmission
  • Optional turbo 2.7L V6 (330 hp, 415 lb.-ft.) + 10-speed automatic

Which off-road features does the 2023 Ford Bronco offer?

Will there be a Ford Bronco 2023?

When it comes to off-roading, the Bronco leaves other midsize SUVs in its dusty wake. Every trim model was designed for rugged adventure, with standard four-wheel drive. The Trail Turn Assist system, a slow-speed cruise control that lets you focus on steering out of a bad spot, is also standard.

As you climb the trim models, you’ll find more trail-friendly gear available. For instance, all-terrain tires, Fox shock absorbers, and a winch are available to help you make it through even the most difficult terrain. Pre-wired auxiliary switches are also available to make aftermarket customization a cinch.

When can I order the 2023 Ford Bronco?

This coveted off-roader can’t get here fast enough! If the new Bronco isn’t delayed, then order banks should open by the end of the summer, in August 2022. We expect this new SUV to arrive at dealerships by fall of 2022.

What's New

Ford resurrected the Bronco SUV in 2021 and introduced the high-performance Raptor in 2022. So, we’re not surprised to see the 2023 Bronco roll into the new model year without any major changes. There are new Bronco Heritage and Heritage Limited Editions that have a similar design to the SUVs from the ‘60s. Besides these new limited-edition models, the Bronco is a carryover model for 2023.

Choosing Your Ford Bronco

With the two new Heritage Editions, the Bronco lineup now spans a total of 10 models: Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Heritage Edition, Badlands, Wildtrak, Everglades, Heritage Limited Edition, and Raptor.

Pricing varies wildly based on trim, as the Base starts at $33,890 and the Raptor costs $75,375 (prices include destination). All of the trims, besides the Everglades and the Raptor, are available in both two- and four-door configurations.

The Bronco shouldn't be confused with the Bronco Sport, which shares a similar-sounding name but is a crossover vehicle based on the Ford Escape.

Engine Choices

The 2023 Ford Bronco is available with three different engines, all of which are turbocharged. A seven-speed manual transmission is standard on the base four-cylinder engine, while a 10-speed automatic transmission is available for $1,595.

The available V6 engines come with an automatic transmission. Adding the V6 engine to the Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, and Badlands costs $3,490. The Outer Banks is special, since it’s only available with an automatic, which makes the V6 a $1,895 option.

Ford offers the Bronco with multiple four-wheel-drive systems. The base system has a terrain selector, selectable engagement, and a two-speed transfer case. Consumers can also spec the available Advanced 4x4 system that brings automatic engagement and extra terrain select systems. This 4WD system is available on all trims as an option except on the Badlands and Wildtrak. Depending on trim level, body style, and configuration, the Advanced 4x4 system can cost between $795 to $7,385.

Engine Type Horsepower Torque Fuel Economy (Combined)
2.3L Turbo 4-Cylinder 270 hp 310 lb-ft 20 mpg
2.7L Turbo V6 310 hp 400 lb-ft 19 mpg
3.0-liter Twin-Turbo V6 418 hp 440 lb-ft 15 mpg

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

The two-door Bronco offers seating for up to four people, while the four-door model can seat up to five. Unlike most SUVs, the Bronco has removable doors and roof.

Two-door Broncos aren’t especially roomy, as they offer 22.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and a total of 52.3 cubic feet of total cargo space. The four-door is far roomier with 35.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and a total of 77.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded.

Safety Features

The entry-level Bronco doesn’t come with a lot of advanced safety features as standard. The Base comes with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, and automatic high-beam assist.

Consumers looking for more safety features will have to move up to the Big Bend, Black Diamond, and Badlands, which are available with Ford Co-Pilot360 as part of the Mid Package that’s priced at $1,495. The Co-Pilot360 suite includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and rear parking sensors.

The Wildtrak and Outer Banks are available with the $1,295 High Package that includes front parking sensors and a surround-view camera. These trims are also available with a Lux Package that brings evasive steering assist and adaptive cruise control for $3,590. These two features are also offered on the Badlands as part of the $5,085 Lux Package.

Connectivity

The standard infotainment system in the Bronco includes an eight-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, four USB ports, and six audio speakers. An eight-inch digital instrument cluster is also standard. Navigation is a part of the Mid Package on the trims where it’s available, while it’s standard on the Outer Banks and Wildtrak.

Springing for the High Package where it’s available brings a 12-inch touchscreen. A 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system and a wireless charging pad are available through the Lux Package.

The Sasquatch package costs $4,200.

2023 Ford Bronco Heritage Edition – MSRP From $45,900

2023 Ford Bronco Heritage Limited Edition – MSRP From $68,490

For shoppers that want the look of the Heritage Edition, but the off-roading capability of the Badlands, there’s the Heritage Limited Edition. It includes the 2.7-liter V6 engine, leather- and vinyl-trimmed plaid seats, red accent stitching, unique badges, the Lux Package, and the Sasquatch Package.

2023 Ford Bronco Raptor – MSRP From $75,375
