Simply amazing, I finally got this after holding off on it and waited for it to go on sale. Cheapest I remember seeing it was still at around $180 shipped from HLJ if I remember correctly. I can't even remember if the original version GFFMC 1006 ever got reduced before it sold out. Didn't chance it and got this one, actually purchased it a month ago from BBTS and was waiting for something in the Pile. Unfortunately that something else has yet to be released.

Overall impression is that this is shiny and pretty. Standing next to the GFFMC Bst Mode Zeta, Unicorn in Destroy mode still looks big. Nice heft to the figure, and the joints are tight and stiff. I took my time with the Transformation, and some of the parts did pop off on me, but I didn't have this problem while I was playing around with the poses. There is one thing that I notice on this that I didn't like. The Sprue and cut marks. They aren't well hidden or taken care of. I didn't notice this much on my Zeta ZPlus and didn't see much of it on the Metal Build 00 7 sword. But this one has it on the front skirts and various other places. But this isn't subtract much from simply how good this figure is.

if you look closely even on the magazine scan you can see the light on the bottom of the front skirt where it cuts off. That's where the nub marks are.

Yeah, for the price, it really shouldn't have any these types of problems. It shows up more on the Prism version because of the shiny coat. And I though that these problem where only on the 1008. But it seems that the 1006 also have these same nub marks in the same spot. Mass production, so some will look better than others. I found these on the other online review pictures and I circled the nub marks on the pictures. Worst is on the gattling guns, see the three circles.

Is approx $205 shipped price good for the Prism Coating version of

1008? Is it worth it at this price? Thanks.

Post by supergetterv on Aug 7, 2011 20:36:36 GMT -5

$205 shipped is the going price for this figure. That is how much I paid for mines. And I've waited a long time for a discount/price reduction. Just didn't happen with this one. Let me correct myself, it was on sale at HLJ once, but if I remembered correctly, it was still closed to 180-190 range after shipping. Just be glad they made a prism color version, otherwise you would have to pay even more for the original 1006 version. It also depends on how much you like the design of Unicorn. A couple of ebay auction had it at this price, like $190 and 15$ ahipping. Unfortunately, both are from California. Toyarena and Animeking ebay auctions have california sales tax for California residence.

In comparison, before I got the Unicorn, I looked and did a lot of research on peoples option especially the comparisons between the 1006 standard and the 1008 prism. Of course, if you can find a 1006, you should go with that version. The reason is that a lot of the hong kong collectors are finding that the prism color version tends to turn yellow. I only have mines for a couple of weeks so it remains to be seen if that will happen. Also, as I have pointed out, there are nub/sprue marks, which is disappointing, especially for something that has this price tag. But all of that is okay because the figure itself is great. I like the accessories. Only one part popped of on me during transformation. In one review, the reviewer made one complaint about this and it is solely on the price. His point is that it is around 100 more than the newer MG kit and it isn't considerably better versus the MG kit. But from what I gathered from the video reviewers, the MG kit transformation is extremely annoying as parts keep popping of all over the place. But IMHO, really there is no comparion as one is a kit and the other is a chogokin. The fact is, I don't have to build it and it looks like it is professionally done right out of the box.

Gotta agree with you there Supergetterv, the GFFMC Unicorn gundam is solid piece and is robust enough for moderate handling. What's great about these metal frame gundam figures is that like you said they look fantastic right out the box, no painting, decaling, sanding etc etc. While the model kits are cheaper and are fun to build, the time and effort it takes to make them look pretty doesn't bode well with work and school. Furthermore, after your done painting, decaling, top coating your kit, you have to handle it ever so gingerly to not risk damaging the paint job and that's not fun.

Anywho I think the GFFMC Unicorn was the turning point of the GFFMC line/metal build line that brought the line a step further and is really well engineered. I know some people complained about it not being fully painted, but to me the pearl finish on my normal version looks great and I think if Bandai fully painted this beast it would probably be victim to paint chipping galore.

Thanks for the reply.

I've seen only the prism color version for sale lately. The yellowing is worrisome. Maybe I'll pass on the prism color version then. Now if I could just find the regular version for a good price...

Oh man, there's yellowing issue with the prism version? That's the version I've got

Sadly there is.

www.toysdaily.com/discuz/thread-141918-1-1.html

You have to translate the page to read it. I don't know if it only happens to this guy or he just has the worst luck. Some of them were already like that straight out of the box. Mines wasn't that way. So perhaps it a factory QC problem, maybe over coating caused the figure to be that way. Or maybe he is just overly sensitive to it.

Rats... and I thought that the addition of the prism coating would've preserve the whiteness instead of accelerating the yellowing. I hope that doesn't make the plastic brittle as well.

Thanks a lot for the head's up. I'll definitely keep this in mind.

Post by mechamasterj on Aug 11, 2011 19:42:10 GMT -5

yeah the clear coat is what is prone to yellowing even when you paint model kits.

Ill say this to those that say mg is better....... Mg offers one thing over this and one thing only, an inner frame that if you chose you could display parts or all of it in its frame...... oh and it has a cockpit complete with piolt. Other than that.... to even get the MG to look like the plain version would take some decent modeling and painting skills. And if you dont already have the supplies you can easily come very close to the price of the GFFMC version.... oh and no gattling gun either.

I know moddlers can spend a 100 easily on modeling supplies, paint, and option parts you can make a unicorn that looks better than this and possibley reiforce the frame to make it more durable but that takes a considerable amount of work, time, and kill and you can still chip paint.

Post by nikodiablo on Aug 11, 2011 21:21:38 GMT -5

^ Yup. And by nature, a model kit is still less durable than an action figure, specially with how the Unicorn's designed to transform.

Interesting. This is the first time I learned that the clear coat is more prone of yellowing than regular white paint / unpainted plastic.

HI. I was wondering if any of your gffmc unicorn gundam suffered any yellowing after a few years on display or kept inside the box?

Post by supergetterv on Dec 8, 2015 11:04:19 GMT -5

Mine is still pretty looking after all these years and no yellowing what so ever. Although I have started to notice that my D-Arts Megaman figures, both my Type1 and type2 Zero has some yellowing on its pearl white parts.
